I first came to learn about Servant Leadership during my time working with a very forward-thinking connection in the British Civil Service. It immediately had a profound impact on me, both as leader and follower, and the implications of this thinking applied in wider business settings really energised my training approach and style. It’s with some dismay that now over 20 years later, this ground-breaking, insightful and powerful understanding of relationships and communication is still underground and certainly under-utilised practice. That said, I can confirm, as a professional assessor of management style and application that those I have considered to be strong and effective leaders (based on performance data) have all, to a fault, displayed consistent Servant Leadership qualities as described here.
